The Encyclopedia Man by Lance Russell
Here are a few photos that will give you an insight of the places I travelled to during my 3 years on this giant island continent – the continent of Australia.
Gallery
- In front of ‘The Twelve Apostles’ on ‘The Great Ocean Road’ in the state of Victoria.
- Entering the Northern Territory from Queensland via the tiny outpost of Hells Gate.
- Here is the very populated community of Roper Bar in the Northern Territory. This was used as a base to sell books to the Aboriginal people of Ngukurr (pronounced Nooker) community. - No tourists or back packer out here.
- Toompine in central Queensland has a population of two. The landlord and landlady of this pub.
- The Purple Pub in Normanton in the far North of Queensland where we played the game “what’s my trade?”
- Entering one of the first Aboriginal communities that I sold books to up in remote far north Queensland.
- Learning the sales demonstration with the encyclopedia prospectus shortly after joining the company.
- The suburb of Olympic Village in the city of Melbourne where in chapter 6 we were given an unusual task to perform in a family’s home.
- The ‘Three Sisters’ in the Blue Mountains - New South Wales.
- This desert fox was photographed near a tiny remote town in outback Queensland called Thargomindah, the coastline now being over 1000km (600 miles) away.
- Here I am with my two mates from Tenby. Ian ‘Yobbler’ Thomas (centre) and Andrew ‘Swalesey’ Swales. I was to leave them shortly afterwards to start my incredible adventure.
- This is a shot during sunset from Perth the capital of Western Australia. The container ships on the horizon are heading for the port of Fremantle just South of the city.
- This was a flight taken over the weird rock formations the “Bungle Bungles” in North Western Australia. The journey might have resulted with losing a passenger during mid flight had he been sitting elsewhere on the plane.
- In front of one of the iron ore trains in Port Hedland - Western Australia. Look carefully and you will see the trucks disappear into the horizon.
- On top of mainland Australia’s highest mountain - Mount Kosciusko - New South Wales.
- This town was an experience in itself. Forget about the TV shows ‘Neighbours’ and ‘Home and Away.’ This was the real Australia and I loved the whole ten days we spent there.
